  • Weight Loss/ Lap BAND® Surgery

The LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding System is the first adjustable medical device approved in the United States for individualized weight loss. The LAP-BAND® System was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2001 for use in weight reduction for severely obese adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more, or for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one severe obesity-related health condition, such as Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and asthma. Used in more than 300,000 procedures worldwide, this simple medical device has safely helped many seriously overweight individuals successfully achieve and maintain significant long-term weight loss to reduce the health risks associated with severe and morbid obesity. Worldwide, approximately 1.6 million adults are overweight, and it is estimated that obesity affects at least 400 million adults.

  • Back and Neck Pain

In many cases of chronic back pain, spinal injections are used both to learn more about what is causing your pain and to treat your pain. Health care providers refer to these two separate uses of spinal injections as diagnostic and therapeutic. The injections can be a diagnostic tool because they give your doctor information that helps him or her make a diagnosis. For example, if an injection provides pain relief in the area that is injected, it is likely that this particular area is the source of the problem. Once the location of one or more sources of pain is discovered, a Surgery One specialist can perform other necessary tests to try to determine the actual problem and create the proper treatment plan. The injections are therapeutic in that they can provide temporary treatment and temporary relief from pain.
  • Hand (Carpal Tunnel) & Upper Extremity

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) or median neuropathy at the wrist is a medical condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist, leading to pain, paresthesias, and muscle weakness in the forearm and hand.[1] A form of compressive neuropathy, CTS is more common in women than it is in men and has a peak incidence around age 42, though it can occur at any age.[2] The lifetime risk for CTS is around 10% of the adult population.[3].

Most cases of CTS are idiopathic (without known cause). Repetitive activities are often blamed for the development of CTS along with several other possible causes. However, the correlation is often unclear.

It is a multi-faceted problem and can therefore be challenging to treat. Still, there is a multitude of possible treatments: treating any possible underlying disease or condition, immobilizing braces, osteopathy, physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, medication, prioritizing hand activities, ergonomics. Ultimately, carpal tunnel release surgery may be required in which outcomes are generally good.
  • Hernia Treatment

A number of factors have led to the recent development of a new method of repair called laparoscopic hernia repair. This technique is really an extension of a traditional mesh repair method (preperitoneal repair) that was usually used in patients who had already experienced several hernia recurrences at the same site. Previously, this mesh repair approach had required a separate incision somewhat removed from the target area. However, with the progressive development of the instruments and techniques for laparoscopic surgery, the same procedure can now be done with several relatively small incisions. This allows the surgeon to enter the space behind the hernia defect and place the mesh with minimal injury to the surface of the abdomen. The apparent advantages of this method include coverage of all the potential sites of groin hernia, which reduces the risks of recurrence while also decreasing the amount of post-surgical pain.
  • Sports Medicine

Knees, shoulders and hips don’t come with a lifetime warranty. The process of aging or sports and recreational injuries can cause damage to joints leading to pain or disability. Most often, something can be done to relieve the pain and repair damage.

A sports injury is a common problem for all types of athletes. Surgery One’s orthopedic surgeons specialize in the treatment of athletes and active people. A sports injury is a setback for any athlete, but with treatment and rehab, you will be back in action soon.
