Dr. David Amory is board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and Fellowship Trained in Spine Surgery. He attended Tulane University School of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Illinois, Cook County Hospital and Rush Presbyterian Medical Center
His professional interests include total joint replacement of the knee and hip and spine surgery. He is currently doing a minimally invasive “quad sparing” approach for the total knee replacements. This muscle sparing approach does seem to speed up recovery significantly. Dr. Amory also specializes in minimally invasive total hip replacements through either an anterior or posterior approach. Additionally a custom table called the “Hanna” table has allowed Dr. Amory to perform direct anterior hip replacement through a four to five inch incision. This muscle splitting technique speeds recovery and has significantly less chance of dislocation than the standard posterior approach.
Dr Amory specializes in spinal surgery. He has embraced cutting edge techniques and routinely performs Kyphoplasty to treat compression fractures, as it is one of the few procedures a surgeon does where the patient usually wakes up immediately feeling improvement. Dr. Amory also performs the X-Stop procedure, a minimally invasive procedure that is done for spinal stenosis instead of laminectomy. It can be done under local anesthesia in an outpatient setting. He also performs XLIFS, which are extreme lateral inter-body fusions. This is a technique where the spine can be fused using a two to three centimeter incision on the side rather than disrupting the tissues in the back.
Dr. Amory truly enjoys seeing patients improve their quality of life and decreasing their level of pain.
